The Coldstream community showed its generosity in a big way earlier this week when police officers and firefighters collected donations for the food bank at a local elementary school.

The Cram a Cruiser/Fill a Firetruck event took place at Kidston Elementary School Thursday morning, Dec. 14, and many students brought food items to donate.

The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP took to social media to share that more than 1,100 pounds of food was collected in support of the Salvation Army Food Bank.

“Way to go Kokanee Families!” The RCMP said on Facebook, posting pictures of kids packing a police cruiser and a fire truck full of food destined for those in need. “Your warmth and generosity helped fill a police car, a firetruck … and our hearts!”

A gentle snowfall on Saturday added some “magic” to the food donation drive.

The Vernon Salvation Army’s kettle campaign is still ongoing. Those interested in supporting the campaign can visit vernonhouseofhope.com/christmas.
