Horse-drawn sleigh rides are back this holiday season in the Okanagan.

Coldstream’s Silver Sage Stables is hosting this year’s sleigh rides from Dec. 21 to 24, and 27 to 31, every half hour from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

“We want to make the most of it while friends and family are in town and looking for things to do. We are happy to share our passion of draft horses with the community, everyone from Vernon, Lumby, Armstrong, Lake Country and beyond,” said Kelly MacIntosh, teamster and event organizer. “It’s not every day that you get to do something like this. The stories of our grandparents working with horses on the farm are not as frequent anymore. We want to keep the tradition going and give everyone a great experience.”

Horses and drivers have participated in other community events in the Okanagan including last year’s sleigh rides at O’Keefe Ranch. Organizers said the move to Silver Sage Stables will allow the event to expand and offer an even greater experience to more individuals throughout the North Okanagan.

“We are really looking forward to working with our hosts, Patti and Maury Grant of Silver Sage Stables in Coldstream,” said MacIntosh. “They have a gorgeous farm with great horse amenities and lots of experience hosting events and weddings. The backdrop is stunning and great for family photos, especially at sunset.”

The event will provide proceeds to C.R.I.S. Adaptive Adventures, an Okanagan-based charitable organization that provides relief to people with physical and mental disabilities by developing and implementing outdoor and wilderness recreation programs.

“CRIS is such a great fit for our event and the people are wonderful. We are looking for four sleigh sponsors for the event to support this cause. We are giving 100 per cent of sponsorship money directly to CRIS. Our teamsters are happy to give our time for sleigh rides for those generous local businesses who would like to support CRIS this Christmas.”

Tickets are available in advance at www.ticketseller.ca or by calling 250-549-7469. The cost is $17.50 for adults, $10 for children 4 to 12 years, ages three and under free (no ticket is required and the child may be required to sit on the lap of a parent). Groups of six or more receive 10 per cent discount.

Silver Sage Stables is located at 7000 Learmouth Rd. in Coldstream. Sleigh rides last about 20-25 minutes and can seat up to 16 people per sleigh. There will be as many as four sleighs going at one time. Guests are encouraged to dress warm and bring a seat cushion or lap blanket.
