A new event is on tap for summer.

The inaugural Summer Suds will feature an afternoon of fun and entertainment while tasting the flavours of more than 40 craft beers, ciders and local food vendors.

The July 16 event at the Vernon Recreation Centre is a fundraiser for Kindale Developmental Association.

Coldstream Truck Parts is the driving force behind Summer Suds, as the title sponsor.

“It’s a great cause to be on board with,” said owner Bruce Davies, whose company has been a long-time community supporter of various groups from the Vernon Vipers to North Okanagan Hospice Society.

“I have been a supporter of many other community events over the years and when hearing about Summer Suds from Rob Morris, committee member, decided it was an awesome new way to help out.”

Morris, aka sponsorship ninja, introduced the event to Davies at Rosters.

“It was over a martini I think,” said Davies, whose family company has been in business since 1959.

With Penticton and Kelowna each having their own similar events, Kindale is exited to bring something similar to Vernon.

“It’s about time we have our own,” said Janna Maderyc, committee member.

Funds raised will help expand services with a focus on youth and transitioning from home to independence.

With a background in community theatre and fundraising, Lisa Doughty from Capri Insurance is eager to be part of the planning committee.

“Funny, when you think there is no time in your life, ‘The time is always right to do what is right,’ – Martin Luther King Jr.,” said Doughty. “What a better reason than Kindale; strong community involvement, awesome organization and even more awesome clientele. Let’s join together today to create a fabulous tomorrow.”

Tickets for the event are $20 before June 16 and available at Coldstream Truck Parts, Village Green Liquor Store or online at www.kindale.net.

“We are very excited about this new, fun event promoting community tourism and fun,” said Cindy Masters, Kindale development officer.
