The 19th annual New Car Dealers of Vernon Fun in the Sun Charity Golf Tournament lived up to its name Sunday.
The North Okanagan Youth and Family Services Society and KidSport will split the $13,000 raised at the event at the Spallumcheen Golf and Country Club.
“It was a glorious day full of sunshine and good times and a pile of money was raised for two very worthy causes,” said Dean Kosmino, NCDAV president.
Just the auction raised $5,300, doubling proceeds from previous years.
In terms of the golf, first place finishers at 61 and 10 under par, and deserving of all bragging rights and accompanying hardware and prizes are: Team Adesa (Wayne Penner, Roger Mushluck, Jerry Robinson, and Brian McHale).
There was a tie for second place after which, applying the rules for the better back 9, resulted in a third place finish for Team Sunshine Honda (Gene Kushniruk, Don Derowin, Grant Kitzman and John Van Dyke). Second place was then awarded to Watkin Ford at 9 under par (Scott Cameron, Eric Girard, Mark Roberts and Audias Valverde).
The speed round was taken by Team Bannister GMC, who may have indeed perfected this contest as they were the winners in 2010 as well.
However, Kosmino points out that the real winners during the tournament were NOFYSS and the local KidSport.
“This is thanks to the thoughtful, caring commitment of the team players, hole sponsors, auction donors, prize donors, volunteers and other individuals that have made supporting youth and health care in our community a priority,” he said.
