Branch 288 Westbank of the Royal Canadian Legion is set to celebrate its 35th anniversary on April 13.

In 1989, the BC Yukon Command felt the Okanagan region was covered with locations in Kelowna, Penticton, and Vernon but veterans in Westbank disagreed. With the help of Milt Wilson, more than 200 people signed a petition that convinced the BC Yukon Command to identify a legion in Westbank.

While the location officially opened on April 10, 1989, the 35th anniversary will be celebrated on April 13 with West Kelowna Mayor Gord Milsom, MP Dan Albus, and Westbank President Phillip Hartman in attendance. The three of them will make speeches after the dinner and dessert portion of the night.

There will also be door prizes donated by Mt Boucherie’s Modest Butcher Kitchen and Market and the Lakesider Brewing Company available to win.

Each legion member will receive a 35th-anniversary lapel pin and specialty beer glasses.

The event begins at 6 p.m.

Branch 288 Westbank is located at #6-2525 Dobbin Road.
