British comedic circus troupe flips for Vernon

Lauded as Britain’s hottest young acrobats

Explore a world where handshakes become handstands and backslaps become backflips.

That’s the hilarious realm the Barely Methodical Troupe creates when the acclaimed British acrobatic circus company brings its hit production, Bromance, to the Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre (VDPAC) stage Tuesday, April 19.

Lauded as “Britain’s hottest young acrobats,” this all-male trio celebrates all things masculine through a series of heroic risk-taking physical feats that incorporate everything from parkour to b-boying, tricking and the circus-favourite Cyr wheel.

“Beyond its thrilling physical acts, Bromance is a witty performance that is a show with relationships at it’s heart. It explores the sweet and sometimes awkward bravado of male friendships,” said Erin Kennedy, VDPAC’s artistic director. “Their experimental fusion of contemporary dance and street dance and acrobatic styles creates a fresh perspective on the material they create.”

Bromance debuted at the 2014 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the world’s largest arts festival, where the Barely Methodical Troupe won a Total Theatre Award for their playful and humorous display. The boys brought Bromance back in 2015 for London’s International Mime Festival and have taken the show on international tours ever since.

For creators and performers Beren D’Amico, Louis Gift and Charlie Wheeller, one of the show’s highest points was their recent three-week run at the New Victory Theatre off-Broadway in New York City.

“With this year’s SPOTLIGHT Special Presentation Series, we really wanted to go all out with mesmerizing performances that showcase what’s possible with the human body,” said Kennedy. “Barely Methodical’s Bromance is the embodiment of what this series strives to be. This award-winning show truly is unmissable.
