Colin James coming back to Vernon for full show

COVID restrictions hurt his last performance in town

It’s been two long years, but he’s ready to just come back and hopes Vernon will ‘keep on loving me baby.’

Colin James returns to town with his new all-star Blues Trio April 2 at the Vernon Performing Arts Centre, and tickets are on sale Friday, Jan. 19.

Two years ago near the end of the pandemic, James had to split his show in Vernon into two shows to accommodate B.C. Health rules at the time and both shows were completely sold out. This time around, things are back to the new version of normal and James is looking forward to playing a full capacity show for all his Okanagan fans.

“The show was postponed three times,” said promoter FJ Hurtak with the Kootenay Concert Connection. “Then we had to do two shows on the same night so we had to cut the shows short.”

Over the years James has worked with some of the world’s greatest artists including Bonnie Rait, Keith Richards, Lenny Kravitz, ZZ Top, Mavis Staples , Carlos Santana, Jeff Healy, Albert Collins and Buddy Guy.

Of course, major commercial hits are no stranger to the Canadian multi-Juno award winner and platinum recording star. Songs like Just Came Back, Five Long Years, Voodoo Thing, Keep on Loving me Baby, Into the Mystic, Man’s Gotta Be a Stone, and more have become household favourites for thousands.

Looking back over James’ career, it’s a timeline rich in highlights. His 1988 self-titled album was the fastest selling album in Canadian history. It won him his very first Juno and an opening spot on tour with Richards.

His second album, Sudden Stop, featured the hit, Just Came back, which reached #3 on the U.S. radio charts and earned him the Juno award for Single of the Year.

James was next credited with launching the swing revival, thanks to his wildly popular Little Big Band, which has released four successful albums to date.

For tickets to see James and his Blues Trio in Vernon April 2 at 7:30 p.m., visit the Ticketseller box office or call 250-549-7469 or visit ticketseller.ca. Tickets are at $55 including GST (service charges extra).

Colin James has truly set the bar for consistency and talent in Canadian music, and even after 20 albums he remains at the very top of his game, always challenging himself musically. A consummate professional and a superb guitarist, Colin is a musician’s musician. The confidence that comes with maturity can be heard in his voice and seen in his electrifying stage performance. He does what comes naturally, he always has, he knows no other way, no other life.
