Vernon Folk-Roots Music Society is proud to present Connie Kaldor with opening act, her son Aleksi Campagne on Oct. 30. It will be a family affair, with husband Paul and son Gabriel joining the band.

Aleksi Campagne’s original music blends folk song writing with an edgy, multi-layered sound resulting from his unique combination of voice, violin and looping-effect pedals.

In a full-page spread in the Montreal Gazette, Brennan Kelly described him as “not just a folksinger with a guitar!”

At 19, Campagne moved to Paris to study under jazz violin legend Didier Lockwood. At 21, he became the only student to have ever been accepted into the classical violin, the jazz violin and the jazz voice performance programs at McGill University. And, by 25, Campagne had graced the lineups of some of Canada’ s most beloved folk festivals—including the Mariposa Folk Festival, the Regina Folk Festival, and the Northern Lights Festival, among others.

Perhaps best known for her song Wood River, which has been sung by choirs across Canada, Kaldor is a: three-time Juno Award winner; member of the Order of Canada; Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal recipient; holds an honorary doctorate from the University of Regina; and is the first songwriter to receive a Western Literature Association Award of Merit.

She is also likely the only musician (other than Shari Ulrich) to have given birth to their backup band.

She began her career in folk music as part of the Canadian wave alongside artists like Stan Rogers and Valdy. Kaldor is celebrating 45 years in show business this year with her 18th recording, titled Keep Going!

It looks like this will be a sold-out show, so check TicketSeller for available tickets.

We look forward to welcoming everyone at the Vernon Jazz Club Monday. Doors open at 6:15, show at 7.

The next Vernon Folk-Roots Music Society concert will be Nov. 22, when they present the Andrew Collins Trio at the Jazz Club.
