Of Canada’s greatest songwriters, Gordon Lightfoot is among the most beloved and, after his passing on May 1, 2023, a Vernon choir group is offering a pair of special winter concerts in his honour.

Counterpoint Choir is presenting classics from the Canadian song book in concerts on Feb. 2 and 3. Five songs of Lightfoot’s will be featured, including his iconic Song for a Winter’s Night, which is also the title of the concert.

Other great songwriters featured in the concert include Joni Mitchell, Ian Tyson, Bruce Cockburn, Connie Kaldor, Rita MacNeil, Stan Rogers and Daniel Powter.

Directed by Dr. Terry Pitt-Brooke and accompanied by Teresa McKnight, the shows feature favourites to warm the winter night and put a smile on your face.

Counterpoint will welcome guest musicians Kilt 45, a popular local Celtic and roots band that will join the show. They will join the choir on some numbers and also play some songs on their own.

The shows will take place at Knox Presbyterian Church Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. but are already sold out.
