A fatal motor vehicle accident is under investigation.

Shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday, RCMP officers attended to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of 20th Street and 48th Avenue in Vernon.

The collision involved a 2007 Grey GMC Sierra pickup truck driven by a 31-year-old man, believed to be from Kelowna, and a 2003 Grey Honda motorcycle driven by a 19-year-old man from Vernon.

“The impact occurred at the controlled intersection which caused the truck to leave the roadway, flipping over into a nearby creek,” said Cpl. Dan Moskaluk.

“The truck driver was ejected from the truck and located deceased in the creek.”

The operator of the motorcycle was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and he is in serious but stable condition

The RCMP and B.C. Coroners Service are continuing their investigation into the collision.

“Preliminary findings indicate that the driver of the truck may have failed to stop for a red light at the intersection,” said Moskaluk.

RCMP indicate that the pickup truck was stolen.

Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call the RCMP at 250-545-7171 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
