If you’ve been looking for a way of enjoying a night out with exploring your creative side, Coffee & Canvas is the place to do it.

On Thursday, local artist Kris Ponto will guide participants through a lesson with acrylics at The Cracked Pot from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

“I love the quote ‘dance as if no one is watching’ and I feel like I apply this philosophy when I paint,” said Ponto. “I love bold, bright colours. I love painting with a feeling or an idea in mind — almost any idea at all — trees, animals, cities, boats and of course, abstract.

“I will give anything a shot and come up with something full of colour and vibrancy that makes me smile.”

Ponto said her inspiration comes from beautiful things she sees in daily life and from suggestions of others.

“The best compliment I can receive is that my art makes people feel happy or uplifted.”

Originally from Alberta, Ponto graduated from Red Deer College with a performance diploma before earning her education degree at the University of Alberta, with a minor in fine arts.

She moved to the Okanagan in 2010. In the past year, she has launched both Coffee & Creations as well as Cocktails & Creations, both interactive art classes with groups of people.

“When you do an art lesson with me, I provide all materials so there is no stress about purchasing the right paint, brushes, canvas or tools. During the lesson, I discuss a couple of tips such as different things I love about acrylics as well as use of different brushes and techniques.”

Participants take home a 12 x 16 acrylic painting by their own hand. Ponto welcomes all painters, from the complete novice to the seasoned artist.

To book your session at Coffee & Canvas, drop by the Cracked Pot on 30th Avenue downtown or visit www.krispontoart.com.
