Early this year, the North Okanagan had great fun learning how to clog dance.

Now, regardless of experience, a special session for all in flatfooting comes to the region Sept. 10 from 2 to 4 p.m.

All ages are welcome. Couples, singles or families can just drop in to the Halina Centre in Vernon at 3310-37th Ave.

Bring drinking water and wear comfortable attire and flat shoes with smooth, hard soles and a supportive back. The wearing of rubber or crepe soles is not recommended.

In flatfooting, the dancers keep their feet close to the floor and shuffle their steps. After learning the basics, participants will enjoy one or two complete dances.

Certified Clogging Instructor (CCI) and presenter of the Flatfooting Workshop, Lynda Colautti of Kelowna, says that the clog dance has several complementary versions. They include styles such as contemporary precision, traditional, freestyle, buck and flatfooting.

“I compare the style variation to enjoying vanilla ice cream with different toppings,” said Colautti. “This workshop is definitely open to the public to learn from scratch because it will teach easy, basic flatfooting.”

Wanting to learn something new, some of those who learned clogging earlier in the year may attend wearing double taps on their shoes. Also called “jingle taps,” they have one on the sole of their shoe at the toe and another at the heel.

Admission is only $5 per person and while you’re welcome to just drop in, it will be appreciated if you can call or email to say, “I’m coming to join the fun!”

For more information or to confirm your attendance, please contact Colautti at 250-718-3088 or email got2bcloggin@gmail.com or see the club’s web site at www.VernonClogDanceFun.info

The Flatfooting Workshop is presented by the Got 2 B Cloggin dance club and is sponsored by the non-profit Okanagan Square &Round Dance Association.
