The sounds and esthetic of the early 1900s are about to be evoked when the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra (OSO) hosts its first fundraiser in the North Okanagan in many years.
Ladies and Lace takes place at the Mackie Lake House Sunday, Aug. 28 from 2 to 5 p.m. and will feature food and drink, a silent auction and live entertainment by Vernon’s own Fish on Five brass quintet.
It’s an afternoon that will enhance Mackie Lake House’s gracious ambience, said OSO president Tracey Reid.
“Our theme this year is the 1900s, which was inspired by the beauty of our historic venue. Our theme is a perfect opportunity to incorporate lace into your outfit,” said Reid.
Besides wearing Edwardian-era attire, guests can also embrace the heritage of the historic Mackie Lake House.
The Coldstream manor, which overlooks Kalamalka Lake off Kidston Road, was built in 1910 by architect Robert Findlay and was last owned by the late Paddy Mackie, whose parents, Grace and Hugh, purchased the home in 1945.
The home and property is now run by the Mackie Lake House Foundation, which serves to preserve and present the building, grounds, furnishings and its related history for the enjoyment and education of the public.
“We are excited to have this fundraiser for the first time in Vernon, building on the success of a similar event that we host in Kelowna each July,” said Reid. “It’s going to be a lovely afternoon enjoying the beautiful space, eating tasty bites, drink, and making new friends.”
The organizing committee has also gathered some impressive silent auction items, including a spa visit to Sparkling Hills Resort, overnight stays at Manteo Resort, Sheraton Four Points and a flat screen TV, added Reid.
