Spring has sprung and with it comes extra funding for Armstrong Spallumcheen’s Chamber of Commerce.

The chamber will receive $72,300 from B.C.’s Regional and Rural Development Unit from the Ministry of Jobs, Economic Development, and Innovation.

The funds will assist the commerce with a handful of projects that will help businesses grow, and be part of a sustainable economy in the North Okanagan.

The funded project is: “Supporting Business Growth and Expansion through a plan, regional marketing, and business education in Armstrong, Spallumcheen and the surrounding small communities.”

“This funding will provide the necessary information for the Armstrong Spallumcheen Chamber of Commerce to assist local businesses and non-profit organizations as they recover and grow into the future,” said the chamber in announcing the funds.

The projects are:

• A business retention and expansion strategy and implementation plan that will support business growth in the region;

• A local business marketing initiative that will bring awareness to the unique businesses in and around Armstrong and Spallumcheen;

• Business educational workshops that will provide updated and new skills for businesses and their staff;

• To build a strong network of businesses that can support and collaborate on new business opportunities.

Businesses will be contacted as the chamber begins to gather information for this project, which begins this month.

Also receiving funds was the Interior Logging Association, whose head office is in Vernon. The ILA will receive $20,025 to support forestry industry members.
