The District of Coldstream is allowing councillors to attend meetings electronically if they’re unable meet in person.

At its regular meeting Monday, Feb. 12, Coldstream council adopted amendments to its council procedural bylaw that will expand a councillor’s ability to participate electronically at council, committee and other meetings.

Council members can participate in a meeting electronically if the member is on medical leave, or if participation is necessary to preserve quorum.

Members can participate electronically up to a maximum of four consecutive council meetings, unless otherwise authorized by council.

No more than two members can take part in a meeting electronically at one time, unless council authorizes otherwise.

With the bylaw amendments, council has now also committed to holding two meetings per year in Lavington, one in the spring and one in the fall. The first will be held on March 11 at the Lavington Fire Hall.
