A new Vernon Winter Carnival event is for the dogs.

This year’s Carnival will feature a brand new event: the K9 Costume Party will take place at the Family Fun Park (Kal Tire Place north parking lot) at noon on Feb. 10.

Folks can bring their pups dressed up in their best costumes to the arena parking lot for the free event, sponsored by Healthy Spot Pet Nutrition and Supply. They can then share a photo of their pet in their costume on their Facebook or Instagram feed with the tag #HealthySpotContest to be entered to win a $100 gift card from Healthy Spot.

Dog owners can also register to join the K9 Costume Parade. Due to limited space, all parade participants must be registered prior to meeting at the Healthy Spot tent at 11:30 a.m. to sign in.

There are three parade prize categories: cutest canine, most creative costume and “waggiest tail.”

All dogs brought to the park must be people and dog friendly.

The event is towards the trail end of the 64th annual Winter Carnival, which takes place Feb. 2-11. For a full schedule of events, visit vernonwintercarnival.com.
