A new fire truck is finally coming to Vernon.
Back in 2023, Vernon council approved the purchases of a new fire engine. However, staff encountered challenges including supply shortages, unanticipated cost escalation and long build timelines.
On March 19, the City of Vernon officially received the truck. It will be pushed into service on April 15.
According to a report, this new truck is “an important milestone for the City as it provides a Fire Underwriters Survey (FUS) recognized apparatus for each of the City’s three fire stations.”
Fire apparatus’s typically are recognized by FUS for front line service for up to 15 years. In some cases, this recognition can be extended for an additional five years.
The previous FUS truck that is being replaced had been in service for 38 years, since 1986.
