UPDATE: Possible weapon leads to Coldstream high school lockdown

RCMP were on scene investigating

Coldstream students are safe following an incident that prompted a school to be put on hold and secure.

Kalamalka Secondary was put on lockdown Tuesday, Nov. 7 shortly after 12 p.m. following the report of a possible weapon in the area.

Out of an abundance of caution, school administration initiated a hold and secure protocol to ensure the safety of the staff and students.

RCMP attended the school to support the safety measure and conduct their investigation. Following a thorough assessment of the situation it was determined the safety protocol was no longer necessary.

In consultation with police, school administration lifted the hold and secure and normal activities resumed at the school around 1:30 p.m.

“The safety of our students and our schools is our top priority,” said Const. Chris Terleski, Vernon North Okanagan RCMP media relations officer. “In response to any potential threats, all necessary steps to ensure their safety will be taken. We want to thank School District 22 staff, students, and families, for their patience and co-operation.”

The high school is located in Coldstream on McClounie Road.

Coldstream Elementary was not impacted.
