Vernon Pride Society will host a vigil and gathering to remember those who have passed in 2023 for the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance on Monday, Nov. 20.

“So many have passed from senseless violence and even more have taken their own lives because of the despair caused by bigotry and intolerance,” said society president Abbie Wilson. “Our candlelit vigil will be to remember our trans, two spirit, and non binary siblings who have passed this year.”

The event will take place at 6 p.m., from Spirit Square (the garden area between Vernon City Hall and Vernon Museum). “People will have the opportunity to write names of people they are remembering on a canvas and hold candles during a few speeches and moments of silence,” Wilson said.

Following the vigil, attendees will be moving over to Ritual Barbershop, where trans art and poetry will be showcased until 8 p.m.
