The Vernon Vipers are firing on all the right cylinders as the BCHL regular season winds down.

The team defeated the Prince George Spruce Kings in back-to-back matchups over the weekend to clinch home-ice advantage in the first playoff round.

Friday’s match (March 22) from Prince George, was a stellar 1-0 shutout victory. Ethan David stopped all 34 shots faced for his fourth shutout of the year.

The Vipers offence only managed 16 shots, but Adam Csabi’s 20th goal of the season was all that was needed, just 56 seconds into the game.

Game two, on Saturday, was another victory for the visitors.

Vernon’s Hank Cleaves scored first in the game, but it was quickly followed by the Spruce Kings’ Killian McGregor-Bennett. In the second, Lukas McCloskey would score twice to bring the lead to two.

Vipers Colin Reay would stand tall in net, stopping 38 shots and all 12 faced in the third for his ninth win of the year.

Vernon (32-19-1) are fourth in the Interior Conference, just two points back of the Salmon Arm Silverbacks for third.

Two games remain in the regular season, as the Vipers will be back home next weekend (March 29) for a back-to-back against Prince George and Powell River.
