Lumby’s mayor wants a fourth term leading the village.

Kevin Acton announced on his Facebook page Wednesday he has officially filed his papers “to run for mayor of our beautiful community, Lumby.”

“It’s really fun to be part of the decision-making process and to work with the community to make things better,” said Acton. “I love building community pride. I feel like we’re really heading in the right direction and want to keep that momentum going.”

Acton is the first of council to publicly declare his intentions for Oct. 20. He’d love to continue working with the current team in place.

“The council we’ve had over the past four years has done an amazing job,” said Acton. “They’re really good people, definitely all have their hearts in it and they’re in it for the right reasons. I wouldn’t mind seeing everybody making an effort to get back on the team, for sure.”

Flood management and smart responsible development top Acton’s list of priorities if successful in winning a fourth term.

“Flood mitigation and flood management is a huge issue for Lumby and has been for a long time,” he said. “There’s a lot of history involved in it. We’ve got some structures that we’d like to see remain functioning as they do to protect the town, especially the downtown core.

“It’s going to be really important to have some consistency or continuity in that uphill battle to get that finally put to rest. I’m sure all the governments are sick of hearing the words Lumby and flooding together, and they’d like to see a solution. I want to stick around to make sure that happens.”
