Abandoned vehicles are being removed from a City of Vernon property.
Staff has received an estimate of $6,000 to remove three derelict vehicles at the bottom of a steep embankment at the shoreline of a lake access site on Eastside Road.
“They look terrible,” said Coun. Brian Quiring of the vehicles.
The cost of removal is due to the inaccessible nature of the site.
Trudeau
invited
Canada’s prime minister is being urged to visit the North Okanagan.
The City of Vernon has invited Justin Trudeau and his family to the 2017 Vernon Winter Carnival.
“It is our understanding that Trudeau will be touring our country visiting communities celebrating Canada’s 150th birthday,” said Deb White, Winter Carnival chairperson.
Trudeau’s father, former prime minister Pierre Trudeau, took part in Winter Carnival festivities in the early 1980s.
Letter revoked
The City of Vernon is backing off support for a new link between the mainland and Vancouver Island.
Council will rescind a letter of support for the Third Crossing Society, which promotes a highway link between northern Vancouver Island and Squamish using the existing Comox to Powell River ferry.
The issue is contentious among coastal communities and Vernon has decided it’s best not to get involved in the debate.
“We don’t have a lot to do with it,” said Coun. Scott Anderson.
