Shelves at the Armstrong Spallumcheen Food Bank are low.
So the RCMP is teaming up with the Armstrong Spallumcheen Chamber of Commerce and Valley First Credit Union to help fill them.
Residents and visitors are invited to attend Valley First’s final Music in the Park presentation Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Memorial Park.
Const. Lucas Montagnese from the Vernon-North Okanagan Rural RCMP detachment will be on hand with a police vehicle in order to help Cram the Cruiser full of non-perishable items for the local food bank.
“We are excited to partner with our local RCMP in support of our Feed the Valley program,” said Patti Thomas, manager of Valley First Insurance Services.
“All food donated Friday evening will go directly to the Armstrong Spallumcheen Food Bank. Cash donations will also be accepted at the Valley First tent.”
Valley First staff members will have a barbecue warmed up and ready to serve at 6:30 p.m., and members of Armstrong Bible Chapel will have coffee and treats as well, all by donation to the Feed the Valley program.
Everyone who brings an item to Cram the Cruiser will also be entered to win a fun prize package.
Donated by the Armstrong Spallumcheen Chamber of Commerce, one lucky winner will walk away with an IPE Family Pass and two ride bracelets to the midway. Look for chamber volunteers under the yellow tent who will be putting names into the draw box.
“The cupboards at our local food bank are looking pretty bare,” said Thomas.
“And with a new school year just around the corner, there is a need for breakfast and lunch items in addition to other staples.”
At the last Armstrong Spallumcheen Chamber of Commerce Business After Business event, Armstrong Mayor Chris Pieper and Spallumcheen Mayor Janice Brown accepted the challenge given to their councils to fill a shopping cart by chamber president Fran Stecyk.
“They both thought it was an excellent way to show support of our local food bank,” said Thomas.
“We will see which council can collect the most by Friday night.”
Beginning at 7 p.m., the band Hat Trick will entertain the crowd for the last Valley First Music in the Park of 2016.
As well as presenting the series, Valley First has been promoting hunger awareness through its Feed the Valley program each evening. When the series is finished for the season, donations can still be made at the nearest Valley First branch, on line through www.valleyfirst.com or through the Food Banks B.C. online donations portal.
