Bank robber given prison sentence

The man who robbed a Vernon bank and helped police by leaving some of his ID behind is staying in prison.

Denis Yvon Lauzon, 45, was sentenced in Vernon Provincial Court to 30 months in jail after he robbed the downtown Bank of Montreal on Feb. 18.

Lauzon made off with an undisclosed amount of cash from the bank.

Police caught a break when they discovered the suspect’s bank card was left behind at the bank.

While producing a note at the 32nd Street bank, police believe the suspect may have accidentally dropped the ID as well.

RCMP were able to track down the suspect the same night as the robbery in the downtown core.

None of the stolen money was recovered.

Lauzon, originally from Quebec, had been staying at shelters in the area, said police.

The judge also gave Lauzon a 10-year firearms prohibition and ordered him to provide a DNA sample.
