Lumpy is considering options to expand tourist accommodations.

Tourists may be coming to Lumby neighbourhoods.

Council is considering a change in regulations that would allow bed and breakfast operations in  the residential zone.

“There is a shortage of short-term accommodation for visitors,” said Coun. Nick Hodge in a notice of motion.

“Council has also expressed a desire to be business friendly.”

It’s also hoped that bed and breakfast operations would allow some residents to cover the cost of their mortgage.

“It’s a good idea as long as parking is available,” said Mayor Kevin Acton, adding that a town hall meeting will be held before further action is taken by council.

“We want to see what the community feedback is.”

Flooding on the agenda

Lumby officials hope flooding will be addressed long-term.

The village has received a letter from the Greater Vernon Advisory Committee about flooding related to the Duteau Creek reservoirs.

“We’re happy GVAC realizes the potential to minimize flooding,” said Mayor Kevin Acton.

“We look forward to future opportunities to work together.”

GVAC has indicated that flood mitigation, along with fish flows, is considered when managing its water supply.
