Cash rolls into film commission

RDNO contributes funds while some other jurisdictions come forward on their own

The Okanagan Film Commission will get its funding, but from a variety of sources.

The Regional District of North Okanagan has agreed to provide the OFC with $33,000 in 2017, the same as in 2016 but down from the $38,000 wanted for this year.

“Any extra money he (film commissioner Jon Summerland) wants, he can collect from those who don’t contribute to the function,” sad Juliette Cunningham, Vernon director.

The only participants in the RDNO service are Armstrong, Coldstream and Vernon.

But it appears that OFC’s budget requests will be fulfilled as Enderby issues $1,100 on its own.

The five electoral areas have also decided to contribute $2,000 in 2017.

“We will look at how we make this more continuous,” said Bob Fleming, BX-Swan Lake director.

Cunningham is pleased that some of the jurisdictions are helping the film commission, but she insists they should be part of the RDNO service so there is predictable funding.

“The whole region benefits from it,” she said.

There is no word if Spallumcheen and Lumby will contribute to the film commission in 2017.
