Cherryville to reveal cenotaph

A new cenotaph is being revealed Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Cherryville Community Hall

Cherryville is honouring those who fought and served, in a new tribute.

A new cenotaph is being revealed Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Cherryville Community Hall.

“We’re  going to unveil the cenotaph in memory of the veterans,” said Hank Cameron, Cherryville director.

Politicians push water agenda

Regional water woes could be on topic as local leaders attend the Southern Interior Local Government’s Association convention in Kelowna this week.

“It’s a good opportunity to bend some ears,” said Mike Macnabb, BX-Silver Star director, who is attending the convention which started Tuesday and wraps up today (Friday).

A water symposium put on by the Ministry of Health and Interior Health will provide timely information on drinking water throughout the region. Therefore it could be a good opportunity to share local water concerns, said Macnabb.

“IH will be well represented.”

Politicians push for open government

Frustration over forestry issues in Cherryville has prompted leaders to call for more transparency from the provincial government.

The Regional District of North Okanagan is writing a letter to the B.C. government requesting that compliance decisions be made public.

“Recommendations are made and then everything kind of goes into this black void,” said director Juliette Cunningham (Vernon).

The issue was also being raised at SILGA this week.

“We have a resolution from SILGA asking for more communication from the provincial government on such matters,” said Hank Cameron, Cherryville director.

New staff at RDNO

A familiar face is crunching the numbers in the North Okanagan.

Rose Bronswyk Kassa has now started duties as manager of financial services at the Regional District of North Okanagan.

Kassa comes from the District of Lake Country, where she was chief financial officer since July 2014 and finance manager since 2003.

“We’re happy to have her here,” said David Sewell, RDNO’s chief administrative officer.
