Coldstream’s Lina Augaitis was golden in Fiji.
The standup paddleboarder won gold in the 200-metre sprints at the ISA World Championships.
The sprints were a new event added for 2016.
“We had semifinal heats and a final with six racers,” said Augaitis, a PE teacher at Vernon Secondary School.
“I nailed the start to finish and managed to win the sprint. In such a short distance, there is no room for error and I raced a perfect race.”
Augaitis also finished fifth in Fiji in the technical course race and eighth in the 18-kilometre long distance race.
She was a captain for Team Canada, which finished 11th overall out of 26 countries.
It was Augaitis’ third World Championship appearance.
