VIDEO: Garage fire next to East Kelowna house not suspicious

Garage is fully involved, say firefighters

Update: 3:30 p.m.

At approximately 8:57 a.m. Kelowna Fire Dispatch received multiple 911 calls reporting a house on fire in the 3200 block of Hall Road.

First arriving crews reported a large single-family house with a separate four-car garage and heavy flames and smoke coming from the four-car garage with three vehicles inside, according to the fire department in a news release.

A defensive attack of the garage was started in order to save the house on one side and the barn on the other.

Due to heavy flames, the four-car garage could not be saved. Both exposure buildings only received very minor damage.

Initial dispatch of 24 personnel with five engines, one tender, a command unit and safety unit.

The fire was not suspicious in nature.

Update: 11 a.m.

Incident commander Kelly Stephens, with the Kelowna Fire Department, said crews were working on clearing up hotspots this morning, and the area where the fire was located posed a few issues for the fire department.

“The garage didn’t survive and all the vehicles inside, fortunately, we did manage to save the house and the horse barn located adjacent to it,” he said.
