Efforts to install a rainbow crosswalk in Coldstream are getting a boost.
Fundraising efforts are underway to help cover some of the costs of the proposed crosswalk.
A Go Fund Me account has been set up to help cover the costs of the crosswalk.
“For me, it’s more of a way to show that we’re serious about this rainbow crosswalk,” said Aasha Sanders, an 18-year-old who recently made a plea to Coldstream to re-consider creating the colourful crosswalk.
“These crosswalks are for everyone. They are installed to show that this community is a supportive community,” she told Coldstream council in her request.
A request was originally made in the fall, which was turned down. But now Coldsteam has agreed to re-consider the idea.
That decision came as a delightful surprise to Sanders and others who are pushing for the crosswalk.
“Just because they said no originally I was kind of expecting them to say no again.”
Preliminary numbers from the earlier request showed the crosswalk would cost approximately $4,000.
But there is no money in the budget for it, therefore the fundraiser aims to assist.
“I’m personally willing to put in everything I can to make this happen,” said Sanders.
The goal of the page (which Sanders’ uncle set up) is to raise $5,000. To donate visit www.gofundme.com/coldstreamrainbowc.
