The Silver Star Freestyle Club received funding from the Funtastic Sports Society in 2016.

The Vernon Funtastic Sports Society is ready to hand out some cash.

The society’s community grant program will be launched Monday at 6 a.m.

The purpose of the community investment grant is to provide financial support to non-profit sport, recreation, and community organizations of a sport nature serving the Greater Vernon region,” said Diana Williamson, president.

“Successful applicants will benefit from the community grant program with an emphasis on projects that will continue to support the growth of sport and recreation in the region. Funtastic is proud to be able to support local sports organizations through grants that cover such things as equipment and capital costs for sports related activities.”

In 2016, the community investment grant program distributed $30,000 to 14 recipients in summer and winter sports encompassing sports field development, equipment purchases, sports programs and physically challenged support program development.

“Last year a benchmark year as Funtastic received more than 33 submissions from non-profit sports groups for community grants,” said Tony Pallas, executive director.

“This clearly shows the need these group have. It also shows that Funtastic is a society that can potentially provide and the public and businesses need to embrace the society and work with us to help support these amazing causes. Whether you’re a local business, or someone wanting to get involved and volunteer, we need all of the help we can get to get this society back in a position to continue the support we’ve offered over the last 33 years.”

Grant applications will be accepted at www.funtasticsports.ca until March 3.

The Funtastic slowpitch tournament and musical festival is from June 30 to July 3.
