Carol Sutherland stopped to fill up gas at the Shell station off the Trans-Canada Highway in Golden.

On a whim, she decided to purchase a 10X the Cash Scratch & Win ticket in honour of her late mother who enjoyed playing the lotto.

Sutherland settled on the 10X the Cash ticket because the ticket’s orange colour matched the accent colour in her home.

A series of incidental decisions resulted in Sutherland winning $150,000 —the biggest prize possible from a Scratch & Win ticket.

Sutherland was thrilled to share the news of her win with her family.

While it likely isn’t the type of lottery winning that will completely alter a family’s finances for generations to come, Sutherland says the winnings will “make life easier,” and she already has plans to visit Mexico next January.

The odds of winning any prize from a 10X the Cash Scratch & Win ticket are approximately 30 per cent and prizes range from $10 to $150,000.
