Hike For Hospice event cancelled

The North Okanagan Hospice Society’s annual Hike for Hospice, previously scheduled for the first Sunday in May, has been cancelled

The North Okanagan Hospice Society’s (NOHS) annual Hike for Hospice event, previously scheduled for the first Sunday in May, has been cancelled.

This is due to a conflict with another local fundraising event taking place the same day.

“We have appreciated the tremendous support and participation from citizens around the region in our previous Hikes for Hospice over the past 10 years,” said Ruth Edwards, NOHS executive director.

“The North Okanagan Hospice Society has been fortunate to have had such great community involvement and we thank everyone who has been a part of this wonderful event.”

The Hike for Hospice is coordinated in part by the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association, the national association that provides leadership in hospice palliative and end-of-life care in Canada.

Locally, the hike is organized by NOHS and its many volunteers where all of the funds raised from the hike support’s operations and programs at Hospice House which cares for those at end of life and their loved ones.

“We felt it was time to put some new ideas together to help raise funds for NOHS and we hope supporters will return in 2017 once we roll out a new celebration that won’t conflict with other local charities and their fundraising efforts,” said Edwards.

Other upcoming events for NOHS include Bookland’s Day of Sales Fundraiser at the Sunshine Festival in Downtown Vernon on June 18; Butcher Boys Food Store’s 9th Annual Chris Huculak Memorial Hospice BBQ fundraiser on July 13; and Dancing with the Vernon Stars on Sept. 30.
