The City of Penticton is warning residents to be ready for higher-than-usual pedestrian traffic over the long weekend from all the events going on.
Those events include the return of the Downtown Community Market, which will close down Main Street on the 200 Block, as well as sections of Front Street and Backstreet Boulevard.
The community market will run every Saturday starting this weekend, and it will run next door to the Penticton Farmers’ Market, which closes the 100 Block of Main Street.
The farmers’ market kicked off its season on April 15, and it runs from 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturdays.

As a result of the markets, BC Transit is adjusting their bus routes through the area, with the full information available on their website at bctransit.com.
Alongside the heavy foot traffic downtown, the city is advising drivers to keep their eyes out for more cyclists than usual thanks to the Penticton Bike Festival, which begins Friday evening.
The festival kicks off with a Show & Shine at Westminster Avenue and Ellis Street on May 19, and on May 20 there will be a group ride starting at the Penticton Library down to the farmers’ market using the city’s bike lanes.
The festival wraps up with an event at the pump track on Monday, May 23.
The city’s beaches and parks are also anticipated to be busy, with hot temperatures in the forecast and the splash pads reopening for the season.
