A new apartment building could grace Armstrong’s downtown core.
A zoning bylaw amendment application has been put forward to city council to change the zoning of a property in the 3200 block of Okanagan Street from country residential to multiple unit residential.
The owners of the property, Danny and Yu Yin Jong, along with applicant Eagle Eye Investments, hope to to construct a three-storey, 18-unit apartment building with the possibility of underground parking.
The apartments would be on the site of a historic building featured prominently in Armstrong’s Chinese community.
The old building was condemned and torn down a few years ago.
“The applicant has not yet finalized the building details,” wrote city administrator Melinda Stickney in a report to council.
Units are proposed to be two bedroom/two bathroom.
Council passed the first two readings of the zoning bylaw amendment application (Coun. Lance McGregor was absent from the meeting), setting the stage for a public hearing on the application.
The hearing will take place Monday at 7 p.m. in council chambers.
