The Township of Spallumcheen is installing new water meters and offering residents the chance to learn more about the upgraded system at an open house next week.
The township says the new meters will provide consistent water service to the community and help conserve water, while also protecting the aquifer, ensuring fair billing and making it easier to identify leaks in the system.
Residents can learn more about the upgraded system at an open house on Tuesday, June 20, from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Spallumcheen’s municipal office at 4144 Spallumcheen Way. The open house will have information about the upcoming water meter installations, water invoicing, future water rate considerations and water conservation.
“Upgrading our water metering system will help our community conserve water, manage our infrastructure responsibly, and ensure that residents are being billed fairly for their water use,” Mayor Christine Fraser said in a press release. “Throughout the upgrade process, the township will work with property owners to make sure the meter installation is completed as quickly and efficiently as possible.”
The new meters will be installed in all water local area services managed by Spallumcheen, including Larkin, Eagle Rock, Hankey, Pleasant Valley, Round Prairie, Highland Park, Lansdowne, Silver Star and Stardel. While Stepping Stones is located in the township, it’s managed by Greater Vernon Water and won’t be included in this round of improvements.
The township says the meters will be installed later this year at no cost to property owners.
Residents receiving the new meters will be sent more information in the coming weeks.
