Officers locate grow operation in Lumby area

One marijuana grow operation down for Lumby RCMP, one missed.

Police entered a residence on Rawlings Lake Road Feb. 24 and seized some 25 marijuana plants and all of the associated grow-op equipment.

It was the third drug search conducted by Lumby RCMP in 2011.

The same week, however, police missed a very large grow-op that had been dismantled prior to police arrival at a property on Richlands Road in Cherryville.

“This was a textbook case with the absentee property owner staying at arm’s length while outsiders are brought in to plant and  tend the crop,” said Cpl. Henry Proce.

Proce said those individuals have been identified.

The investigation of marijuana grow operations continues to be a priority for the Lumby detachment.

“At any given time throughout the year, we have from eight-to-10 active investigations on the go,” said Proce.

“If you have any information to provide, please continue to call in your tips.”
