A widespread area of Greater Vernon was in the dark Monday morning.
The power went out just before 7:47 a.m. for 15,523 customers in Vernon, Coldstream and Spallumcheen.
“There was a crew on site at the time (at the sub-station) and they were able to restore the power in 17 minutes. That was pretty fast,” said Jen Walker-Larsen, with B.C. Hydro communications.
It’s believed the outage occurred when a bird came in contact with sub-station equipment and six circuits were tripped.
Walker-Larsen admits there is little that can be done to avoid these situations.
“Birds are able to get in. It’s the nature of electrical operations,” she said.
