The Vernon RCMP is investigating a fatal single vehicle collision which occurred early Wednesday morning in which one of the vehicle occupants was riding outside of the vehicle at the time of a rollover.

Vernon RCMP received a report at 12:30 a.m. of a single-vehicle rollover collision with one fatality at the end of Tronson Road, just north of the intersection with Garmisch Road.

“A 27-year-old man suffered fatal injuries,” said RCMP Cpl. Dan Moskaluk. “The man was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

Moskaluk said investigators determined that the deceased male had been riding on top of the vehicle, or roof surfing, as the 2007 Dodge Calibre left the travelled portion of the roadway and rolled over.

The car had three occupants seated inside, two other men aged 35 and 40, and a 27-year-old female.

Investigators spoke with the woman who remained at the scene and located one of the two male occupants after the pair of males had walked away.

“The second male eventually attended the Vernon RCMP detachment later in the day and was released without charges at that time,” said Moskaluk.

Scene examination was completed by the traffic collision reconstruction analyst, along with the B.C. Coroners Service.

No further information can be released at this time.

RCMP investigators are asking for public assistance and would like to speak to any witness or anyone who may have information regarding this matter. Anyone with information can call the Vernon RCMP at 250-545-7171 or via Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
