Sign sought for Lumby village entrance

Coun. Nick Hodge wants a sign on Lumby-Mabel Lake Road

A Lumby politician says the community’s location needs to be more clearly defined.

Coun. Nick Hodge wants a sign on Lumby-Mabel Lake Road so southbound motorists know when they are entering the village.

“We have quite a bit of traffic on the road and there’s no defined landmark where the village starts and the regional district ends,” said Hodge.

Hodge also believes a sign will indicate what Lumby residents get by being part of the village.

“I want them (drivers) to know they are entering the village and on one side, people receive water and sewer and on the other side, they don’t.”

Coun. Randal Ostafichuk says a road sign would reduce some public confusion.

“People are uncertain as to where the boundary is,” he said.

“Just with something like a backyard fire, the rules are different in the village than in the regional district.”

Hodge is also pushing for a speed limit sign for northbound traffic leaving the village on Lumby-Mabel Lake Road.

He says that speed north of J.W. Inglis Elementary is perceived by residents to be excessive.
