Silver Star Mountain is declaring the B.C. Cup Downhill Championships a success.

Saturday saw hundreds of racers and spectators descend on the resort from Vernon, Kelowna, Kamploops and beyond to take home B.C. Cup DH titles.

“We couldn’t be happier with the turnout,” said Paul Kenward, events manager.

“We had more than 19 races, hundreds of participants and spectators from the Okanagan and as far as Whitehorse.”

Whistler resident Chris Kovarik took first place in the UCI Elite Men race in two minutes 51 seconds, followed by Luke Stevens from Revelstoke (2:56) and close third Brandon Douglas from Williams Lake (2:58).

Claire Buchar came first in the UCI Elite Women’s race at three minutes 18, Winlaw local Michelle Griffiths at second place (3:19) and Stephanie Denroche from Whistler at 3:42.

The B.C. Cup has been held at SilverStar since the 1990s, including the Grundig World Cup in 1994.
