The Columbia-Shuswap Regional District has rejected Okanagan Regional Library’s request for a tax exemption for the branches in Falkland, South Shuswap and North Shuswap.
B.C. Assessment granted the tax exemption without consulting with CSRD.
“I’m a little disappointed and very much surprised. These are privately held properties, and I think it can potentially set a very dangerous precedent. We’re shifting the tax burden on to other property owners now,” said Charles Hamilton, chief administrative officer.
The regional district board has agreed to send a letter to B.C. Assessment asking to reconsider the ramifications of the exemption.
