Canadian dual nationals are being told they're not affected by Donald Trump's actions.

The U.S. president recently signed an executive order restricting access to his country by citizens of Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen over three months.

“Constituents are very concerned that people will be stranded indefinitely or returned to countries that are not safe," said Stephen Fuhr, Kelowna-Lake Country MP.

"I want to assure them that our government will continue to do everything possible to protect the most vulnerable, including providing temporary residency as needed."

Fuhr says Canadian permanent residents with a valid permanent resident card and a passport from the seven countries identified in the executive order can still enter the U.S.

"As such, all Canadian passport and permanent resident card holders are able to travel to the United States as before," he said.

"U.S. green card holders are exempt from this executive order. The executive order does apply to foreign nationals from those seven countries transiting through Canada, however, the minister of immigration will be using his authority to provide temporary residency as needed."

Fuhr says all airlines flying were briefed Sunday by the Canadian government with the latest information regarding how they should handle Canadian citizens and permanent residents traveling to the U.S.
