Update 5:30 p.m.

The Lake Country Fire Department quickly put out a kitchen fire at a residence on Berry Road.

Crews were called to the scene around 3:40 p.m. and found dark smoke exiting the building.

Fire Chief Brent Penner said they responded with three engines.

Before fire crews arrived a passerby used a fire extinguisher on the flames. “That kept the fire to a minimum, but it was rolling pretty good when we got into the structure,” Penner said, adding that they had the fire knocked out in about five minutes.

Penner confirmed the fire started in the kitchen of the units, but added that the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The duplex consisted of four units and the department is helping to find each accomodations for the evening.

No one was injured in the blaze.
