City of Vernon officials are at the Union of B.C. Municipalities convention in Victoria.

The City of Vernon will be well represented in Victoria.

Five of the seven council members are attending the Union of B.C. Municipalities convention, which began Monday and runs until Friday, while two administrators will also be there.

“It’s important to have representation as a community,” said Mayor Akbal Mund.

Mund isn’t sure what it will cost to send seven people from the city to UBCM.

Not attending are Councillors Bob Spiers and Brian Quiring.

Along with debating issues on the convention floor and attending workshops, city officials will meet with four provincial cabinet ministers.

“It’s a 15-minute meeting (per minister) and it goes quick,” said Mund.

Among the issues specifically pursued by the city will be RCMP costs, invasive mussels and affordable housing.

“We also attend regional district meetings to show support,” said Mund.

Other North Okanagan jurisdictions are also at the UBCM convention.
