The annual Alzheimer’s walk in Vernon smashed their target fundraising goal, raising more than $20,000.

Hosted at Polson Park for the first time, the North Okanagan IG Wealth Management Walk For Alzheimer’s on Sunday, May 28, saw more than 150 people in attendance.

“We had beautiful weather and it was such a great turnout,” said chair Patrick Vance.

The Wicked Waffles food truck, along with Gord Oh’s Poutine and Grilled Cheese, were on hand to satiate the guests.

Last year’s fundraising goal was set at $10,000. This year, it was set at $15,000 and was easily passed by more than $5,000.

“Our committee would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported this year’s walk as well as all the volunteers who brought this event to life,” said Vance. “We are already looking forward to next year’s event on May 26, 2024.”

The Alzheimer Society of B.C is the organization represented in the walks around the province. This year, 21 communities participated. The walk is the largest annual fundraising event for Alzheimer’s’s and is a way to honour and remember people who have been affected by the disease.
