I volunteered to work all of the stat holidays throughout the spring and summer, and by doing so, I basically became the Farmers’ Market reporter for the Morning Star.
Really, what’s not to love about covering one of the most visual events of the summer, where there is also delish homemade food and high quality produce and crafts?
Each of these was a delight to cover, but the highlight for me was the Canada Day Monday market, with the performance of guitarist Justin Klassen with the band Broke-N-Notes. I shot a video of the performance and was blown away by his improv solo that fit the song perfectly.
It reminds you that you can find a gem in every tory assignment if you are willing to look for it.

The clouds did not keep the crowds away from the Canada Day weekend edition of the Vernon Farmers’ Market.
The vendors were very busy serving customers, the parents and their children were having a blast with face-painting and arts and crafts, and foodies were kept satiated with many delicious choices.
Most came away with bags full of locally grown produce, hand-made art or a bite for later.
