Five (5) positions on the Board of Variance.

The Board of Variance is an independent body established by the Local Government Act and governed under Board of Variance Bylaw 5914, that allows property owners a means of addressing minor bylaw variances where compliance with land use regulations would cause undue hardship. The Board consists of volunteer community members. Terms for these positions are for three years (expiring January, 2027). Board members should be prepared to attend meetings open to the public on a monthly basis; however, meetings will only be held as required, depending on applications.

Additional information related to the function of a Board of Variance in British Columbia is available on the Province of BC website (https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/governments/local-governments/planning-land-use/land-use-regulation/zoning-bylaws/board-of-variance).

  • Four (4) from the Accommodation Provider Sector
  • Two (2) from the Arts & Culture Sector
  • One (1) from the Attractions Sector
  • One (1) from the Golf Sector

The Tourism Commission’s purpose is to develop Vernon as tourism destination through collaboration between Tourism stakeholders, Council and Administration and assist with increasing Vernon’s market share of travelers to and within British Columbia. The Commission also aims to increase tourism-driven economic benefits to Vernon and identify and provide recommendations on programs and services that will enhance the tourism sector in Vernon. The Commission meets on the third Wednesday of the month at 8:00 a.m.

*Please note individual applicants MUST reside within Vernon City Limits unless otherwise specified by the Committees Terms of Reference or the applicable Bylaw (specific to the Board or Commission).
