October 12 - NOTICE OF LEASE RENEWAL NOTICE OF ASSISTANCE

In accordance with Section 26 of the Community Charter, The City of Vernon hereby advises of its intent to amend a lease as follows:

• The City and the Vernon Pickleball Association (Inc. No. S0063337) (the “VPA”), have agreed to amend the terms of their lease dated for reference June 30, 2017 (the “Lease”) whereby the City has leased part of the lands legally described as PID: 001-765-850, Amended Lot 6 (See B12748), District Lot 62, O.D.Y.D., Plan 1707, Except Plan 35574 and located at 6601B Okanagan Landing Road, comprising the Vernon Pickleball Courts (the “Pickleball Courts”).

• The City and the VPA have agreed to renew the Lease for the term from July 19, 2022 to and including July 18, 2027 (the “Renewal Term”), with rent for the Renewal Term of $10.

In accordance with Section 24 of the Community Charter, the City of Vernon hereby advises of its intent to provide assistance to the VPA by charging less than market rent for the Lease Renewal Term. In addition, the City has agreed to grant the VPA $200,000 towards the construction of a washroom, administration and reception areas at the Pickleball Courts.

• The VPA has agreed to operating guidelines that ensure the Pickleball Courts are open for use by the general public (not members of the VPA) for a current user fee of $15.50 for two hours of play for adults and $8.00 for youth that includes: access at least six hours daily, access to courts not booked 72 hours in advance, access to VPA Beginner Lessons and no court fees for City Recreation Summer Youth Programs. And further, the VPA have agreed to provide a one day per month open house to the general public, from November 2023 through March 2024 consisting of at least two hours on six courts with a maximum of five people per court, with paddles, balls and basic instruction provided – all free of charge.
