Albert (Whitey) Rosman was born November 27th, 1925 in Las Animas, Colorado and raised in central Montana. At 18 Al enlisted in the army. He served in the 82nd Airborne Division, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment in World War II from Dec. 1943 to April 1946. His first foray was into the Battle of the Bulge. After the war ended, Al's regiment served as General Eisenhower's honor guard.
Al was an athlete. He played many sports including basketball and football and boxed and ran track and field while in Europe. On return from the war, Al won the Montana golden gloves state championship in 1946 and won the title of North Western US Light Heavy Weight Boxing Champion during the 1954 Olympic trials. Throughout Al's life he ran, walked and eventually rode his cart 2-3 kilometers per day.
Al received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Physical Education from Montana State University and his master's in education / counselling from the University of North Dakota. Al taught school in the US from 1950 - 1970 and in Armstrong, BC from 1970-1987. He served as Vice Principle of Pleasant Valley Secondary and as Principle at Len Wood. Al spent many years coaching sports teams.
Al said his greatest passion was his family. Al met and married the love of his life, Allie Claire Jewell in 1954. They moved to Vernon, BC in 1970. They raised six children: Phil (Lynn), Dick (Kerry), Mike (Dianne), Jon (Leanne), Terri (Matt) and Tami (Daniel). Al and Allie have 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Al was predeceased by his wife Allie in 2017. They were married for 63 years. Al was also predeceased by his mom and dad (Al and Pearl), his three brothers (Dick, Dave, and Virgil) and his sister (Connie). Al will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and the many students who's lives he touched.
There will be a celebration of life gathering on Sunday, October 20th, 1-4 pm at the Lakers Club House located at 7000 Cummins Road, Vernon, BC. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association of BC.
